Mucha gente puede tener interés por lo paranormal o temas relacionados con lo oculto, pero encontrar un lugar para hablar de ello puede ser un problema. Navegando por la red se pueden hallar algunas salas de chat que te permiten conocer gente de otros países y compartir experiencias con personas de distinta cultura a la nuestra. Hace unos meses descubrí a Ghostly Encounters o “Encuentros Fantasmales”. Me pareció interesante introducirles a Wrathchild, una chica de Gales y dueña de esta sala de chat. La otra dueña de esta sala se llama Lena y es de Estados Unidos. Es un sitio altamente recomendable para visitar, ya sea leyendo el material del foro o conversando con la gente que se encuentra chateando en ese momento. Aquí están algunas de las preguntas que le hice a Wrath:

¿Por qué estas interesada en lo paranormal?

Estoy interesada en lo paranormal desde que tengo memoria. Cuando era una niña pequeña en la escuela, mientras las otras niñas jugaban con muñecas, yo era la que se sentaba en la esquina y contaba… ¡historias de fantasmas!
Este interés se mantuvo conmigo mientras crecía y cuando llegó a la televisión el programa “Most Haunted” me enganchaba a verlo y me preguntaba lo grandioso que sería hacer mi propia caza de fantasmas; por eso cuando encontré un grupo local de investigadores de lo paranormal me uní a ellos. Y hoy ya estuve en alrededor de 20 cazas de fantasmas y es fantástico poder vivir mi sueño.
¿Entonces por qué estoy interesada en lo paranormal? Porque dentro de mí siempre supe había mas en este mundo de lo que simplemente vemos y supongo que lo hice una misión personal tratar de conocer acerca del mundo espiritual lo más que pueda… y seria maravilloso si un día puedo lograr algún tipo de evidencia para probar lo que creo que es verdad a todos los escépticos del mundo!

¿Te consideras una persona “con los pies en la tierra”?

Si, totalmente. Especialmente en los últimos años en los que tuve que aprender a apreciar las cosas simples de a vida y trato de no dar todo por sentado… y aunque tengo algunas locas ideas y creencias y ser conocida como “niña salvaje” en ciertas ocasiones, también me considero una persona sensible a pesar de mi forma extraña de vestir y mis tatuajes, por lo que la gente puede encontrar en mí una persona muy accesible.
Creo que soy así por mi espiritualidad, me di cuenta que cuando mas me abro a lo espiritual tengo más los pies en la tierra.

¿Alguna vez te diste cuenta que algo que considerabas paranormal al final tenia una explicación racional?

Creo que tendría que nombrar aquí a la parálisis del sueño.
Cuando experimenté esto por primera vez… despertándome, paralizada, sin poder moverme o gritar, no entendía lo que me estaba pasando. A veces escuchaba una risa diabólica o veía por el rabillo del ojo sombras moviéndose alrededor mío o solo sentía la presencia de algo “maligno” acechando en mi cuarto.
Debo admitir que cuando empezó a suceder esto tenia miedo de contarlo a la gente, me preguntaba si estaba siendo atacada por algo demoniaco y temía que si decía algo iban a pensar que estaba loca. Después de unas semanas con esto le conté a un amigo, y él me explicó sobre la parálisis del sueño. Cuando volví a casa busque en internet sobre los síntomas y todos mis síntomas parecían indicar que sufría de este desorden…. Las sombras y presencias malignas que sentía eran parte de una “alucinación hipnogógica” que es como un sueño lúcido, y parece que todo esto es bastante común y algo que la mayoría de la gente pudo experimentar en algún momento de su vida.
Desde entonces estudié sobre el tema y tenemos mucha gente que entra en la sala de chat pidiendo ayuda porque están siendo “atacados por demonios”, pero cuando describen la parálisis, la incapacidad para gritar, el zumbido en los oídos y los otros síntomas, puedo contarles sobre esto y decirles que pueden estar sufriendo de un desorden del sueño y les doy consejos de cómo prevenirlo.

¿Crees que en Gran Bretaña la gente es más abierta y toma los fantasmas como algo más normal y cotidiano?

Creo que los británicos se están volviendo más y más abiertos, especialmente con todos los programas que hay en la televisión sobre este tema y todos los “grupos paranormales” que se están formando.
Sin embargo creo que en Gran Bretaña fue mayormente reservada sobre este tema y aún hoy no mucha gente en este país va a admitir abiertamente que cree en fantasmas.
Me di cuenta que, por ejemplo, en Estados Unidos es más abierta y espiritual, y es generalmente mas aceptado allí en ser un creyente en lo paranormal que en Gran Bretaña.

¿Cuáles fueron tus objetivos cuando comenzaste con “La Sala de las Ilusiones” y luego con “Encuentros fantasmales” en Talk City?

Abrí “La Sala de las Ilusiones” en mayo de 2006, y mi meta era proveer de un ambiente seguro y amistoso donde la gente pudiera entrar y contar sobre cualquier experiencia extraña que tuvieron en su vida y recibir de nosotros consejos amistosos sin tener el temor de ser ridiculizados.
También fue para mí en un nivel más personal, un lugar donde yo podría aprender de las experiencias de la gente y expandir mi conocimiento en lo paranormal.
Pero sobre todas las cosas era inicialmente un lugar donde los que chatean puedan venir, divertirse y reírse con gente que tiene intereses similares.
Después de un tiempo decidí cambiar el nombre de la sala de chat porque la gente que venia no se daba cuenta de la naturaleza paranormal de la sala de chat, por lo que eventualmente lo cambié por el de “Encuentros Fantasmales” , una denominación que la gente podría ver en la lista de salas de chat de Talk City y darse cuenta inmediatamente que es un lugar para compartir las historias de sus encuentros con fantasmas.

¿Entonces qué es lo que la gente puede esperar cuando entra a chatear en “Ghostly Encounters”? ¿Es solamente un lugar para compartir experiencias paranormales?

Aunque inicialmente es una sala de chat sobre lo paranormal también somos una sala en la que la gente puede divertirse, otras salas “paranormales” de chat en Talk City son estrictamente sobre lo culto y no les gusta cuando la charla se va hacia otros temas.
Nosotros entendemos que la gente que entra a nuestra sala es amiga ante todo y podemos conversar sobre nuestra vida diaria y pasar un buen momento.
Por ejemplo en la noche del lunes tenemos nuestra “Locura metalera” donde DJ Vamp transmite en vivo heavy metal y rock mientras chateamos. ¡Esta es generalmente una noche en que nos relajamos y actuamos tontamente mientras disfrutamos la música!
También tenemos un robot llamada Immensia que esta programada con toda clase de cosas divertidas como juegos de preguntas entre otros, incluso puedes charlar con ella porque tiene su propia personalidad y… ¡mucha actitud!
Sobre todo, Ghostly Encounters es un lugar amistoso y divertido para gente de mente abierta que quiera venir y discutir sus ideas y experiencias sobre los variados temas del ocultismo, también tenemos unos grandes moderadores que te harán sentir bienvenidos al mismo tiempo que te ayudan a dejar el drama de lado.

A lot of people might have some interest in paranormal or related topics, but to find a good place to talk about it can be a real problem. Surfing on the Internet you can find some chat rooms where you can meet people from other countries and share experiences with men and women who have different cultures than us. A few months ago I discovered Ghostly Encounters in Talk City. I think it’s a very recommendable place to visit, just to read the material in the forum or to chat with the people who can be in the room at that moment. I also think it’s interesting to introduce you “Wrathchild”, the Welsh girl owner of this room. The co-owner’s name is Lena, a lovely woman from U.S.A. Here there are some of the questions I made to Wrath:

Why are you interested in paranormal?

I have been interested in the paranormal for as long as I can remember… When I was a little girl at school while all the other little girls would be playing with dolls, I would be the one sat in the corner telling ghost stories!
This interest stayed with me as I grew up and when the show ‘Most Haunted’ came on the TV I was hooked watching it, I would often wonder how great it would be to be doing a bit of ghost hunting myself so when I found a local paranormal investigations group I joined them straight away, I have now taken part in around 20 ghost hunts and its been great to finally live my dream…
So why am interested you ask? Its because deep down I have always known that there is more to this world than just what we see and I suppose I have made it a personal mission of mine to find out as much about the spirit world as I can.. and it would be great if one day I could capture some form of evidence, to prove what I know to be true to all the skeptics in the world!

Do you consider yourself someone “down to earth” and why?

Yes I am very down to earth.. Especially more so in recent years.. I have come to understand to appreciate the simple things in life, I try not to take things for granted and although I have some pretty crazy ideas and beliefs and have been known to be a bit of a ‘wild child’ on occasions I also consider myself a sensible person. Also despite how strangely I dress, and despite my tattoos people find me a very approachable person.
I suppose the reason I am this way is because of my spirituality, I have found that the more open I’m getting spiritually, the more ‘down to earth’ I become

Have you ever misunderstood a personal experience you really thought was paranormal and at the end had a rational explanation?

I suppose I would have to say the sleep paralysis here.
When I first experienced this… waking up, paralyzed, unable to move or scream I didn’t really understand what was happening to me. At times when it would happen I would hear evil laughter or see shadows darting round at the corner of my eye… or just sense a presence of something ‘evil’ lurking in my room.
I must admit that at that time when it started I was afraid to tell anyone… I did wonder if I was being attacked by something demonic and I was afraid that if I told anyone they would think me mad! After a number of weeks though with this happening on almost a nightly basis I did crack one night and tell a friend of mine… He then explained sleep paralysis to me so I went home and checked it out on the internet and all my symptoms seemed to show that I was suffering from this disorder… even down to the laughter, shadows and the evil presence I was feeling, these were all down to “hypnologic hallucination” which is like a waking dream, and it seemed that this was all quite common and something that most people would experience at some point in their lives..
I have since studied it in detail and we get many people come in to the chat room asking for help because they are being “attacked by demons” but when they describe the paralysis, the inability to scream, the buzzing in the ears and the rest of it I am able to put their minds at rest and explain to them that they are just experiencing a little known sleep disorder and give them advice in how to prevent it.

Do you think that in Great Britain people is open minded and take ghost as something not very unusual?

I do think that the British people are becoming more and more open minded.. especially with all these TV shows on the subject lately and all the paranormal groups which are starting up..
However I do think that in Britain the people have mostly been very reserved on this subject and even today not many people in this country will actually admit that they believe in ghosts..
I find that in America for example people are a lot more open minded and spiritual and it is generally more acceptable over there to be a believer in the paranormal than it is in Britain.

What were your goals when you started Halls of illusions and ghostly Encounters in Talk City?

I first opened ‘Halls of Illusions” back in may 2006, and my goal was to provide a safe and friendly environment where people could come to talk about any strange experiences they had in their lives and receive friendly advice without the fear of being ridiculed.
It was also for me on a personal level a place where I could learn from other people’s experiences and expand on my knowledge of the paranormal.
But above all else it was initially intended to be a place where chatters could come, have fun and a laugh and a giggle with likeminded people.
After awhile I decided to change the name of the room as people were coming in not realizing the nature of the room as being a paranormal chat.. so I eventually decided to call it “Ghostly Encounters”.. a name which people would see on the chat room list and immediately know that it was a place to share stories of their encounters with ghosts!

What can expect the people when they come to chat in Ghostly Encounters? Is this just a space to share paranormal experiences?

Although initially it is a paranormal chat room we also pride ourselves in being a room where we can have fun, some paranormal rooms on Talk City are strictly for paranormal chat only and don’t like it when the conversation turns into anything else.
We understand that the people who come to our room are friends before anything else and we do want to talk about ourselves and what we have been up to and just have a laugh sometimes.
For example on a Monday night we have our “Metal Madness” evening where DJ Vamp streams live heavy metal and rock music to us as we chat.. this is usually a night where we just let our hair down and act silly whilst enjoying the music!
We also have a chat bot called Immensia who is loaded with all sorts of fun features such as trivia and kaos games among other things.. you can even talk to her she has her own personality and heaps of attitude!
All in all Ghostly Encounters is a fun and friendly place for open minded people to come in and discuss their experiences and ideas on all manner of paranormal subjects, we have a few great room moderators who will make you feel welcome whilst at the same time helping to keep the drama out!
